E) MANUAL DRIVER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
In some cases the automated driver installation process may post a message that states,
"No adapters were installed because compatible driver wasn't found"
and then abort. If you are sure that the software you are attempting to install is
appropriate for your ATI product and for the Operating System you are using, ATI Windows
display drivers may be installed manually using DISPLAY PROPERTIES.
- If you downloaded a driver bundle from ATI you must RUN the driver bundle program once
PRIOR to using this manual procedure. This action unpacks the driver files and creates the
"disk image" required for a manual installation.
- You will browse to the directory where the drivers are located later on in this
procedure.
- If you have an ATI Installation CD you will find the display drivers in the Atidrive or
WIN9X directory of the CD.
- If you downloaded a self-extracting driver bundle from the ATI SUPPORT WEB site and then
executed the file, you will find the driver DISK image on the C: drive in a directory
called ATI \ SUPPORT \ ########. (The # signs will actually match the name of the file
that you downloaded. For example ######## may be W82548en)
STEPS:
1) Click the START button and select SETTINGS > Control Panel
2) Double click the DISPLAY icon to open DISPLAY PROPERTIES
3) Click SETTINGS, click the ADVANCED button and then select the ADAPTER tab
4) On the ADAPTER page, click the CHANGE button. This launches the "UPDATE Device
Driver Wizard"
5) Click NEXT and select the "DISPLAY a LIST" radio button and click NEXT again.
This prompts Windows to build a database and presents a list of products.
6) Click the "HAVE DISK" button
7) Click BROWSE and browse to the directory where the drivers are located. (If you
downloaded the driver mentioned above you would browse to C:\ ATI \ SUPPORT \ W82548en.)
When you get there the file name MACXW4.INF will appear.
8) Click OK and follow the prompts on the screen to complete the driver installation.
9) When prompted select the name which most closely matches your product. (Any name may be
used and the driver will work properly even though you may have a PCI adapter rather than
AGP.)
